Lost (season 4)

{5/5} “Never say never, dude.”

Locke believes that the island is a place of miracles and the castaways should stay. Jack believes that it’s just an island where strange things happenĀ and they should go home. A boat has arrived near the island but there’s some disagreement about whether the people on it are there to help the castaways or hurt them.

Lost season 4 originally aired in 2008. It’s a shorter season, with only 14 episodes.

In addition to flashbacks are are now flashforwards. Of course, we’re initially not sure how far in the future these flashforwards are. But what happens in them is fairly surprising.

It seems like the writers knew what they were doing all along — the story is gradually revealed and things fit together very cleverly. There is at least one surprise every episode.

There’s a bit of general repetition, with people running from place to place on the island, people being captured, people being beat up, and people making deals — but the ongoing story is so interesting that this doesn’t matter.

Michelle Forbes (the TV show Battlestar Galactica) guest stars in one episode. Alan Dale (the TV show Once Upon a Time) shows up a few times as Charles Widmore. Sonya Walger (the TV show FlashForward) plays Penny, Desmond’s girlfriend and Charles’s daughter.

I previously reviewed season 3.
