Frankenweenie
{4/5} “Ladies and gentlemen. I think the confusion here is that you are all very ignorant. Is that right word, ignorant? I mean stupid, primitive, unenlightened. You do not understand science, so you are afraid of it. Like a dog is afraid of thunder or balloons. To you, science is magic and witchcraft because you have such small minds.”
Victor’s dog Sparky dies when he’s hit by a car. But Sparky was Victor’s only friend so he decides to use science to bring him back to life. When the neighbour kids find out that Sparky is alive, they hatch their own plans to bring animals back to life — they all want to win the science fair.
Frankenweenie was released in 2012. It’s a stop-motion animated movie based on a short live-action movie that Tim Burton made in 1984.
It’s very funny. Victor’s science teacher looks like Vincent Price. There are some other clever visual jokes, many having to do with Frankenstein.
If you liked The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, you’ll like this one.
The playful and spooky music is by Danny Elfman (Men in Black 3).
The movie features the voices of Catherine O’Hara (Beetlejuice), Martin Short (Mars Attacks!), Martin Landau (Ed Wood), and Winona Ryder (Edward Scissorhands).
The movie was directed by Tim Burton (Dark Shadows).
