Mr. & Mrs. Smith
{4.5/5} “I love my wife. I want her to be happy. I want good things for her. But there are times…”
John and Jane have been married for 6 years and are just a bit bored with each other. Both of them have a secret — they’re assassins, and the other doesn’t know it. One day they’re given the same mission — kill a guy named “the Tank” when he’s in a convoy near the Mexican border. The mission is unsuccessful and they each have 48 hours to clean up the mess — including killing the competition. They’ve been together for 6 years — can they really kill each other?
Mr. & Mrs. Smith was released in 2005. This is the second time I’ve seen it.
If there’s a funnier action movie than this one, I’m not sure what it is.
I love how they each have a stash of weapons — Jane’s in the kitchen and John’s in the garage — that the other doesn’t know about. A minivan isn’t usually the car of choice when you’re in a chase but they make it work here.
It’s fairly unrealistic in spots, but on the whole I liked it a lot. There are lots of great sequences that show Jane and John are the best at what they do.
It’s not about the plot or the characters — it’s about the humour, the romance, and the action.
The delightful music is by John Powell (How To Train Your Dragon 2). I particularly like the track “Playing House.”
Brad Pitt (Megamind) plays Mr. Smith and Angelina Jolie (Playing By Heart) plays Mrs. Smith.
Vince Vaughn (Thumbsucker) plays John’s friend and co-worker and Michelle Monaghan (Gone Baby Gone) plays a computer expert.
The movie was directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow).

I watched this one again — it’s delightful.
