Ant-Man

{4.5/5} “Sorry I’m late — I was saving the world. You know how it is.”

Ant-Man, released in 2015

When Scott gets out of jail he tries to go straight but finds it tough. He agrees to a job that sounds perfect — crack the safe of an old rich guy who’s on vacation. Inside the safe he finds a suit that has the ability to shrink him while increasing his strength — a suit that turns him into Ant-Man. Hank Pym, creator of the suit, wants Scott to help him keep similar technology out of the hands of humanity.

It’s exciting and funny. Movies where someone is shrunk have a reputation, probably deserved, of being silly — this one is not.

In the first scene Michael Douglas looks 30 years younger through the magic of CGI.

Michael Peña is hilarious as a friend of Scott’s who tells complicated stories.

The movie takes place in the same universe as the Avengers — this is referred to in a couple of ways, including one special guest star.*

As usual, you have to wait until the end of the credits for the final scene.

Stars Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly. Directed by Peyton Reed (Yes Man). The theme music by Christophe Beck is terrific.

A sequel is forthcoming.

Spoiler alert

*Sam Wilson / Falcon
