Star Trek: DTI — The Collectors

{4.5/5} “Oh, for — Gariff, stand up and open your eyes. If it’ll make you feel better, I promise to wipe your memory before I send you back. But right now I may need you. This isn’t the right timeline.”

Star Trek: Department of Temporal Investigations — The Collectors by Christopher L. Bennett, published in 2014

Gariff Lucsly and Marion Dulmur, agents of the DTI, retrieve an obelisk that has time travel properties. They take it to their top secret vault, where Jena Noi drops by — they’ve met her before, and she’s an agent from the future. She says she would like to take the obelisk with her, but then the obelisk does something — and the 3 of them are whisked off to an alternate future.

The Department of Temporal Investigations series consists of 2 novels and 3 short stories, all by Bennett. I’ve read the novels and now I’m reading the stories.

This short story is only available as an ebook.

Although the stakes are high, it’s a fun story. The story has a grand scale to it, and characters that have vastly different ideas about how to deal with time.

I previously reviewed Bennett’s Star Trek: The Face of the Unknown. The last DTI book I read was Star Trek DTI: Forgotten History.
