Mayan civilization bigger than you thought
Archaeologists knew that the jungles of Guatemala were hiding more of the ancient Mayan civilization — but they didn’t know how much. Laser scans in an area of 2 100 square kilometres revealed 60 000 structures. They’re revising the estimates of the size of the society from 5 million people up to 10 to 15 million people.
