Second Foundation

{5/5} “If a sizable group of human beings learned of  key details of the Plan, their actions would be governed by that knowledge and would no longer be random in the meaning of the axioms of Psychohistory. In other words, they would no longer be perfectly predictable.”

Second Foundation by Isaac Asimov, published in 1953

The First Foundation is under the Mule’s control along with much of the Galaxy. But the Second Foundation’s location is a secret — no one knows where it is. That won’t stop the Mule from looking for it, and he sends out his best people for the job.

This is the sequel to Foundation and Empire. It’s the culmination of Asimov’s original Foundation trilogy, which was left as is for 30 years.

I didn’t predict the answer to the main question this time, and it was very satisfying to have it explained logically.

There’s one final surprise in the last sentence.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.
