Russian Doll (season 1)

{5/5} “That’s my drug dealer, I gotta take this.” — Nadia, to her colleagues in a meeting

Russian Doll season 1, aired in 2019

On the night of her 36th birthday party, Nadia sees her missing cat Oatmeal across the street and rushes towards him. She gets hit by a car and dies. But then she finds herself back at her birthday party. Because she’s having déjà vu, things happen differently this time.

This show is hilarious. It retains its sense of humour, but becomes more serious as it goes along.

After the surprise at the end of episode 3, the show has a different dimension.

It’s so brilliant you’ll watch all 8 episodes in a short amount of time. It tells a complete story about friendship, forgiveness, and helping other people.

Stars Natasha Lyonne, Charlie Barnett, and Elizabeth Ashley.

Created by Leslye Headland (writer of Sleeping with Other People), Natasha Lyonne (actor in the TV show Orange is the New Black), and Amy Poehler (co-creator of the TV show The UCB Show).
