Privately sponsored refugees in Canada

A good news story. Forty years ago an agreement was put in place to allow private citizens to get together and sponsor refugees. It was in 1979, under Prime Minister Joe Clark, and the refugees people were concerned about at that time were from Southeast Asia. Here’s the story, right from the Canadian Senate website:
