Sorry to Bother You

{4.5/5} “I feel like these metaphors have not been cleared for this pep rally.”

Sorry to Bother You, released in 2018

Cassius gets a new job as a telemarketer. The old guy next to him gives him a suggestion — use his “white voice.” Once he starts doing that, he makes a lot more sales. The guy in charge keeps saying he’ll soon become a “power caller” and get to move upstairs.

This movie starts off weird, and it gets weirder. But it’s very clever, and it’s very funny.

It takes the concept of doing things just for money to its logical extreme.

Stars LaKeith Stanfield, Tessa Thompson, and the voice of David Cross. Directed by Boots Riley (his first movie).
