Pirates of the Caribbean

{4.5/5} “You will always remember this as the day that you almost caught Captain Jack Sparrow.”

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, released in 2003

Will Turner’s beloved Elizabeth has been taken by pirates. He makes a deal with jailed Captain Jack Sparrow — he’ll get him out of jail if Sparrow will lead him to the Black Pearl. Sparrow knows something about Turner that he doesn’t — that his father was Bootstrap Bill, one of the pirates involved in the curse. In order to break the curse Captain Barbossa needs the blood of Bootstrap Bill’s child.

This is probably the best movie based on a theme park ride, although I can’t imagine there’s much competition.

The 2nd half is more interesting than the 1st half — there are lots of fun parts.

Stars Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush. Directed by Gore Verbinski (Rango). The soundtrack by Klaus Badelt, with assistance from Hans Zimmer, is one of my favourites.

This is probably the 3rd time I’ve seen it.
