Fighting the Supreme Court nomination

Ruth Bader Ginsberg, judge on the US Supreme Court, passed away a few days ago. Donald Trump has already nominated someone to replace her. Despite the fact that in 2016 Barack Obama’s nomination in an election year was blocked by Senate Republicans. The deeply hypocritical Republicans vowed to approve of anyone Trump picked.

It’s very important — if another insanely conservative judge gets onto the court it will mean bad decisions for years or decades. Abortion, the Affordable Care Act — it’s all up for grabs. It’s important to win the election, but the Supreme Court is also important — they can strike down laws. What can Democrats do? Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks gives them 5 ideas:

Here are some brilliant options:

  • They could request that each vote in the Senate have unanimous consent until November 30th.
  • The debt ceiling and the budget both need to be passed, and need Democrat votes in the House — they could make this contingent on not filling that seat.
  • They could impeach the president again — there are several completely valid reasons for doing so.
  • They could threaten to enlarge the Supreme Court when Democrats are in power.
