Parasite
{5/5} “I don’t think of it as forgery or crime. I’ll go this university next year… I just printed out the document a bit early.”
Parasite, released in 2019
Ki Woo’s family is poor because his parents are out of work. They occasionally make a bit of money by doing things like folding boxes for a pizza place. His friend Min is going away for university and says that he can get a job tutoring a girl in English. He then convinces the mother to hire his sister as an art tutor for her younger son. He then plots with his sister to get the driver fired and replaced with their father.
The first half is amusing but then it takes a darker turn.
It’s about the comedic and tragic situations that can occur when rich people and poor people interact. You’ll be thinking about this one for a while.
Stars Kang-ho Song, Woo-sik Choi, So-dam Park, and Hye-jin Jang. Directed by Bong Joon Ho (Okja). The wide ranging music is by Jaeil Jung.
