Star Trek: Voyager (season 5)
{5/5} “There are three things to remember about being a starship captain: keep your shirt tucked in, go down with the ship… and never abandon a member of your crew.”
Star Trek: Voyager season 5, aired in 1998-99
When Seven and the Doctor beam back from a nebula, Borg nanoprobes create a new drone who eventually calls himself One. When Voyager tracks down what seems to be a Starfleet signal, they find a recreation of Starfleet Headquarters with members of Species 8472 disguised as humans. Fifteen years in the future, Chakotay and Harry find Voyager stuck in ice and its crew all dead. When Voyager comes across a wormhole to the Alpha quadrant only Seven, Naomi, and the Doctor realize that it’s a trick.
I like that Janeway listens to Mahler. The Doctor’s interactions with Seven are always engaging.
I like how Chakotay and Tuvok work together to stop Janeway from sacrificing herself in “Night.”
In the 2-part “Dark Frontier” the Borg Queen tells Seven that she will spare her crewmates if she returns to the collective. In “Course: Oblivion” the biomimetic copies of the crew have forgotten their origins and believe they are a Starfleet crew on their way home to Earth. In “Relativity” Seven is recruited by Captain Braxton in the 29th century to stop someone from destroying Voyager. In the season finale “Equinox” they meet another Starfleet ship — but they’re in bad shape and they’ve abandoned their principles.
Recurring guest stars include Nancy Hower as Ensign Samantha Wildman, and Scarlett Pomers as her daughter Naomi. Naomi always brightens up an episode, and as such she’s my favourite recurring character.
Guest stars include Kate Vernon, Jason Alexander, Lori Petty, and Scott Thompson. Susanna Thompson had big boots to fill as the Borg Queen but she did a terrific job.
Ray Walston reprises his role as Starfleet Academy gardener Boothby — although it’s not really him. And LeVar Burton makes a brief but thrilling appearance as Geordi La Forge.
This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.
I previously reviewed season 4.
