Every Heart a Doorway

{4.5/5} “Most of us are here because we want to be able to open our doors at will, at least at first. Sometimes the desire goes away. Sometimes the door comes back. Sometimes we just have to learn to deal with being exiles in our home countries.”

Every Heart a Doorway by Seanan McGuire, published in 2016

Nancy’s parents dropped her off at her new boarding school. They think it’s a school for “troubled” kids, but it’s really for kids who have visited other worlds. Eleanor, the person who runs the place, visited another world when she was a kid so she knows what the deal is. Nancy had visited the Halls of the Dead — and she wants to go back.

This is a novella. There are many stories about kids going through a portal to another world — this is about what happens when they come back.

It’s about being around people who understand what you’re going through, and it also has a murder mystery.

This is the 1st book I’ve read by McGuire.
