Star Trek: Voyager — The Eternal Tide
{4.5/5} “You can’t fix everything… But you can try. And it’s in the trying that you learn who you are. You decide, in every single moment you draw breath, the quality of your life, how much you’re going to contribute, and how much happiness you’re going to create in the face of the darkness. And even a universe as frightening as this one finds ways to surprise you.”
Star Trek: Voyager — The Eternal Tide by Kirsten Beyer, published in 2012
Captain Chakotay is taking Voyager to the planet where some ex-Borg had reestablished a collective among themselves. Captain Eden is heading to the Mikhal Outpost to see if she can find out more about her origins, now that the Doctor has declared her DNA is impossibly perfect. The rest of the Voyager fleet is headed to Borg space, or what they hope is formerly Borg space. Meanwhile, Q2 is concerned about the death of his godmother Admiral Janeway and enlists the help of his friend Amanda Rogers to do something about it.
In addition to the Q family and Kes, someone you may or may not have expected to see again shows up this time.* Icheb has a small but nice role.
It’s about mysterious anomalies, mysterious people, and a danger so powerful it threatens the Q.
Although the relationships among the characters is brilliant, I wasn’t quite as thrilled with the threat-to-the-universe plot.
I’ve read 5 books by Beyer. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Voyager — Children of the Storm.
Spoiler Alert
*Admiral Kathryn Janeway, who’s been dead for 14 months
