Star Trek: Living Memory
{4.5/5} “The Federation isn’t perfect. We’re better than most, but we only got that way because of past generations of protestors who pushed for a better world. And we do backslide now and then — our leaders get complacent and lazy and need a kick in the pants to remind them what we stand for.”
Star Trek: Living Memory by Christopher L. Bennett, published in 2021
Admiral James T. Kirk has convinced Starfleet Academy to allow the Warborn from Arcturus to attend. The Arcturans genetically engineered them to help in the war with the Klingons, but they weren’t needed. Meanwhile, Commander Pavel Chekov aboard the Reliant is investigating the second occurrence in 2 months of some mysterious vacuum flares. He eventually discovers that the systems affected are all ones the Enterprise visited.
Once again we’re in between the 1st 2 movies in terms of the timeline. Admiral Cartwright, Demora Sulu, and Christine Chapel all show up.
It’s a sequel to the TOS episode “The Changeling” (the one with Nomad).
It’s about reconnecting with people you’ve been avoiding, and wondering what you will do with your life when you were born to do one thing.
I’ve read 13 books by Bennett. I previously reviewed Star Trek: The Higher Frontier.
