{4/5} “My mom might let me Facetime you. Then we can be friends. You can come over to my house and make up stories. Then we can go to the same college together, and become neighbours with mortgages.”
Old, released in 2021
Guy and Prisca are on a tropical vacation with their kids, Maddox and Trent. They want the kids to have one more good memory before telling them that they’re splitting up. One day they go to a secluded beach with just a few other people. Everything seems great, until they find a dead body. Then they discover that Maddox and Trent have aged about 5 years in the time they were there.
Gael GarcĂa Bernal is very funny when joking around with the kids.
I like the premise a lot, and the beginning of the movie is terrific. Even the middle is mostly great, but the ending goes off track.
The main problem is that the ultimate solution is arrived at in a ridiculous way. It makes sense in a general way, calling back to things from earlier in the movie. But the specific clue and their interpretation of it are nonsense.
The actors do a good job portraying people who are aging.
Stars Vicky Krieps, Rufus Sewell, Ken Leung, Thomasin McKenzie, and Alexa Swinton. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan (The Sixth Sense).
