Star Trek: Discovery — Wonderlands

{4.5/5} “The enormity of this hit her at last when she transported onto the bridge of what was plainly an old science vessel. Even this far into her own future, something of the basic design remained familiar. The curve of the bridge, the various stations, the captain’s chair. Every console was dark, every system was dead. All the great work that this ship had done, brought to a halt, in one tragic, brutal moment.”

Star Trek: Discovery — Wonderlands by Una McCormack, published in 2021

Michael Burnham has travelled 1000 years into the future but Discovery is nowhere to be found. Also, the Federation has collapsed because of something called the Burn. Luckily she ran into Book, who is friendly and a source of useful information. Until she finds Discovery, or more of Starfleet than one man on one station, she’ll become a courier. But first she needs a ship.

This story takes place in between season 3 episodes 1 and 2 — in other words, between the time Burnham got to the future and the time Discovery arrived.

The banter between Burnham and Book is fun.

It’s about how you can get used to circumstances that are very different from what came before, and how you need friends no matter where you are.

I’ve read 9 books by McCormack. I previously reviewed The Autobiography of Mr. Spock.
