Chaos Walking

{4/5} “‘You didn’t just think there were two settlements in all of New World, did you?’ ‘No, of course not. Thought it was one.'”

Chaos Walking, released in 2021

Todd lives on New World, where all the men think their thoughts out loud — the call it “the noise.” Some of them can control it more than others. When a scout ship crashes, he finds the only survivor, Viola. The first woman he’s seen in many years — the woman of his village were all killed by the Spackle, creatures indigenous to the world. The mayor wants to take over Viola’s spaceship, so Todd’s dad sends him away to protect them.

It might not quite be a great movie, but it’s an interesting premise with a couple of terrific actors.

I like how Todd calls her “space girl” until he learns her name.

It’s about 2 people who have led very different lives getting to know each other, and the planet they’re on.

The biggest question I’m left with is how Prentiss was able to control the men with his mind.

Stars Tom Holland, Daisy Ridley, and Mads Mikkelsen. Directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow). The music is by Marco Beltrami and Brandon Roberts.
