Rosaline

{4.5/5} “I’m afraid you’re not the first maiden he’s charmed with his high cheekbones and fancy words.”

Rosaline, released in 2022

Romeo told Rosaline he was in love with her, and they agreed to meet the next day at the masquerade ball. But Rosaline was out on the water with one of the suitors her father procured for her and she missed the ball. Now Romeo is saying the same things to Juliet that he said to Rosaline a few days ago — but little does Romeo know, Rosaline and Juliet are cousins.

This movie retells the story of Romeo and Juliet from a different perspective. Rosaline is mentioned in the original play but only briefly — here she takes centre stage. The story takes place in medieval times but uses modern language.

It’s very funny.

It’s about learning about yourself, the people around you, and love.

Stars Kaitlyn Dever, Bradley Whitford, Christopher McDonald, and Minnie Driver. Directed by Karen Maine (Yes, God, Yes). The playful music is by Drum & Lace and Ian Hultquist.
