DaCapo Chamber Choir’s “Earthrise”

I attended the DaCapo Chamber Choir’s concert “Earthrise.” Here’s the program:

  • Henry Purcell – Hear My Prayer, O Lord
  • Nicholas Ryan Kelly – Loam
  • Jeff Enns – Moonset
  • R. Murray Schafer – Epitaph for Moonlight
  • Nicholas Ryan Kelly – Earthrise
  • Leonard Enns – This Thirsty Land*
  • Frank Ticheli – There Will Be Stars

Special guests included oboist Sarah Cardwell and a string quartet consisting of Adam Diderrich, Nora Pellerin, Rebecca Diderrich, and Miriam Stewart-Kroeker.*

“Earthrise” was a premiere. Kelly, its composer, was in the audience.

This is the last concert in a set with an environmental theme.

All of the pieces were beautiful. Of the pieces I knew, “Moonset” is one I could listen to every day. “This Thirsty Land” was was the biggest piece, in 5 parts with differing styles, with the instruments accompanying.

DaCapo is directed by Leonard Enns.

The previous DaCapo concert was “Dear Mother Earth.”
