Wednesday (season 1)

{5/5} “‘Please excuse Wednesday, she’s allergic to colour.’ ‘What happens to you?’ ‘I break out into hives and then the flesh peels off my bones.'” — Morticia, Enid & Wednesday

Wednesday season 1, aired in 2022

Gomez and Morticia Addams send their daughter Wednesday to a new boarding school, Nevermore, because she was expelled from the last one. This is a school for outcasts, and they’re hoping Wednesday will fit right in. Wednesday’s roommate is very friendly, and she catches the attention of 1 or 2 boys. Meanwhile, she tries to unravel a mystery — there have been 3 grisly deaths in a nearby forest.

I like the character of Enid, Wednesday’s roommate, who at first glance is the complete opposite of Wednesday but she befriends her anyway.

It’s hilarious, and upholds the spirit of The Addams Family in a way that’s similar to the 1st 2 movies.

One could argue that they went a bit overboard on the mystery storyline — but I love the tone, characters, and theme of friendship.

The delightful music theme is by Danny Elfman, and he and Chris Bacon contribute the music for the episodes.

Jenna Ortega is glorious as Wednesday. Having Christina Ricci play a regular character is also very special.

Guest stars include Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán as Morticia and Gomez. Their every gesture is perfection.

Stars Gwendoline Christie, Riki Lindhome, and Emma Myers.

Four episodes were directed by Tim Burton (Big Fish).

Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (writers on Spider-Man 2).
