Weird: The Al Yankovic Story

{5/5} “One day I’m going to be the best… Well, perhaps not technically the best, but arguably the most famous accordion player in an extremely specific genre of music!”

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, released in 2022

Al’s dad doesn’t want him playing the accordion or singing songs. He’d rather he work at the factory with him. When Al starts doing his parody songs, music executives don’t think they’re worth an album. But once they get on the radio, he becomes wildly rich and famous — so much that Madonna wants to be his girlfriend.

This isn’t the true story of Al’s life, but it is hilarious. The 2nd half might be slightly less interesting than the 1st half.

It’s based on a short “Funny or Die” video of the same name from 2010.

Daniel Radcliffe learned how to play the accordion for the movie. However, the singing that Radcliffe appears to do is actually the voice of Al himself.

There are a bunch of cameos, like Michael McKean and Jack Black. There are also a bunch of other actors playing famous people, like Pee-Wee Herman and Andy Warhol.

Stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rainn Wilson, and ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic. Directed by Eric Appel (the TV show Die Hart). The soundtrack contains a bunch of Al’s very funny songs.
