White Noise
{4.5/5} “Doesn’t anyone want to pay attention to what’s actually happening?”
White Noise, released in 2022
Jack teaches Hitler Studies at a college and Babette does fitness instruction for seniors. They have a family of kids from their various marriages. Denise is worried that Babette is taking pills that are affecting her memory, but Jack wants to give her space. Jack is having nightmares that are pretty scary. When a truck runs into a train, a toxic cloud means they have to evacuate their house.
This movie is set in the 1980s. It has a very dry sense of humour.
You’ll want to be in the mood for the absurd if you’re going to watch this one.
It’s about people who are smart but have trouble knowing how to react to things.
There’s a part near the end without the kids that’s less interesting.
The end credits are like a music video set in a grocery store.
Stars Adam Driver, Greta Gerwig, Don Cheadle, and Raffey Cassidy. Directed by Noah Baumbach (The Squid and the Whale). The mysterious music is by Danny Elfman.
