Suzume

{3.5/5} “We don’t have any cats.”

Suzume, released in 2022

Suzume stumbles across a man, Souta, who asks her if there are any abandoned areas with doors around. She tells him where one is, and then follows him to see what’s going on. It turns out his job is to close magical doors when something horrible tries to get through. She decides, even though she’s supposed to be going to school, to help him with his important task.

This is a Japanese animated movie.

I like the characters, animation, and music. As for the story, it’s not quite as coherent as I’d like it to be. In particular, the fantasy aspect isn’t always consistent.

Stars the voices of Nanoka Hara and Hokuto Matsumura. Directed by Makoto Shinkai (Your Name). The music is by Kazuma Jinnouchi and Radwimps.
