The Flash

{5/5} “You’ve got to start letting me finish my sentences.”

The Flash, released in 2023

Alfred calls the Barry Allen, the Flash, to help with a sinkhole next to a hospital — which turns into a wing of the hospital collapsing. After using his super speed to get to Gotham, the Flash has to recharge before rescuing a bunch of babies. His father is in jail for killing his mother, but Barry doesn’t believe he did it. He’s upset about that, and runs so fast that he travels back in time. Bruce Wayne warns him against doing it again.

They have a nice way of showing the Flash running at super speed.

It’s one where the hero causes his own problems, but at least in this case it was understandable that he did so.

It’s lots of fun.

It becomes a love letter to superhero movies, at least DC ones.

Michael Keaton astonishingly reprises his role as Batman for the first time in 30 years.

Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot make delightful appearances. There are a few more surprises.*

Stars Ezra Miller, Sasha Calle, Michael Shannon, and Jeremy Irons. Directed by Andy Muschietti (It). Benjamin Wallfisch’s delightful music contains hints of Danny Elfman’s Batman and Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL’s Wonder Woman.

Spoiler alert

*George Clooney, Nicolas Cage, and Jason Momoa, as well as archive footage of other heroes
