Star Trek: Vulcan’s Glory
{4.5/5} “I can assure you that no mission is ever just routine. Every time we go out, we learn something. We blaze new trails into the unknown. But remember, space is not our ally. The Enterprise is This is a fine ship, and I insist on a superior crew. I know you’ll live up to my expectations.”
Star Trek: Vulcan’s Glory by D. C. Fontana, published in 1989
Spock is on leave in Hawaii, as he has been ordered to relax before joining his new posting on the Enterprise. His father, Sarek, requests his presence on Vulcan so of course he goes. Even though he hasn’t spoken to his father in 8 years. His father reminds him of his obligations to their land, and to T’Pring.
Before Strange New Worlds, there were a small number of novels that took place during the time Christopher Pike was captain of the Enterprise. This was the 1st.
The story features Sarek, Amanda, T’Pring, and Stonn on Vulcan. It features Christopher Pike, Number One, Dr. Boyce, and Scotty on the Enterprise.
It’s about encouraging trade between 3 factions on a post-apocalyptic world. And figuring out who would steal a Vulcan artifact, and murder someone for it.
This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.
Aside from a novelization, this is the only novel Fontana wrote. She wrote a bunch of episodes of TOS, among other things.
