Godzilla Minus One

{5/5} “Well, there goes my prized white rice.”

Godzilla Minus One, released in 2023

Koichi was a kamikaze pilot who didn’t want to die. When Godzilla comes to the island Koichi is on, he fails to shoot him with his plane. Koichi goes home after the war, but it’s all destroyed. He meets a woman with a baby, and he lets them stay with him.

This is a Japanese movie.

It’s the first Godzilla movie I’ve seen. As for the visuals, Godzilla looks fantastic.

It has a bunch of human characters who are highly interesting and unique amongst movies I’ve seen.

It’s about the tragedy of war, and how it can continue for people after the war’s over.

This movie is astonishing.

Stars Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe.

Directed by Takashi Yamazaki (Always: Sunset on Third Street). The music is by Naoki Satô — Godzilla’s theme is terrific.
