Harriet the Spy
{4.5/5} “There’s a difference between looking at stuff and really seeing it.”
Harriet the Spy, released in 1996
Harriet is in sixth grade. She and her friends Janie and Sport always make fun of class president Marion. Harriet often goes out spying on people — she goes out looking for interesting things, and writes them down. Harriet’s nanny Golly takes them to Mrs. W’s place — she’s created a fun place for kids to play in her yard. When Golly takes Harriet and Golly’s friend out to dinner and a movie and Harriet’s parents find the house empty they fire Golly.
It’s about the joys and trials of being a kid. It will remind you of a simpler time, perhaps a time when you were a kid.
Based on the book by Louise Fitzhugh.
Michelle Trachtenberg plays Harriet delightfully and shows she will become a big star.
Stars Rosie O’Donnell, Gregory Smith, and Vanessa Chester. Directed by Bronwen Hughes (The Journey Is the Destination).
