The Endless

{4/5} “All that happens here is that people live long and healthy lives. Because of that, they grow to be the people they want to be.”

The Endless, released in 2017

Aaron and Justin were in a cult when they were kids. They got themselves out, but they’re having a tough time making a living. They both go to deprogramming therapy. They receive a video from the cult and Justin wants to go back, ostensibly to say goodbye. He has fond memories of being there. Aaron is older and remembers more of the bad things. He would rather move forward, but he will go with his brother.

The setup is quite good but once strange things started happening it became a bit less interesting. Characters are vague until it’s time to reveal what’s really happening.

It’s about finding a place where people are happy, trying to figure out what’s really going on, and working through how you’re going to interact with your brother.

The stars of the movie also directed it — Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead (Spring, some episodes of Loki). Justin Benson wrote the screenplay.

Also stars Callie Hernandez, Lew Temple, and Tate Ellington.
