System Collapse
{4.5/5} “(For however many corporate standard years, all I got from humans was ‘Run in there no matter how likely you are to get blown to tiny pieces when a quiet tactical approach has a higher percentage of success’ and now it’s ‘Oh no we’re fine, we can hang out in this objectively terrifying immediately hazardous situation for however long.’) (I’m just saying that it would be nice for the humans to give me a realistic situation report for once.)”
System Collapse by Martha Wells, published in 2023
Murderbot was still on the colony planet, with ART in orbit. ART’s humans were trying to convince the colonists that they should evacuate rather than allow themselves to be slaves to the corporation that was claiming the planet. While they’re talking to the colonists, they find out that there are some colonists at another site, and they don’t know exactly where it is. When some people volunteer to go search for the other colonists, Murderbot goes along — this is the sort of situation where it may be needed.
This is the 7th and so far final book in the Murderbot series, following Fugitive Telemetry.
It’s about doing your job to protect people while having feelings that are difficult to deal with.
This is the 7th book I’ve read by Wells. I will read more.
