Waitress

{5/5} “I don’t think we can write that on the menu board, hon.”

Waitress, released in 2007

Jenna is a waitress and also invents new kinds of pies. She’s unhappy when she finds out she’s pregnant as she’s planning on leaving her husband in a couple of months — she’s secretly saving up money. Becky and Dawn, her coworkers, don’t envy her because they know Earl is a terrible person. When Jenna asks her husband if she can enter a pie making contest he says no.

This movie is about what happens when you want to leave your terrible husband but can’t afford to. It’s also about supporting your friends through whatever’s happening with them.

The situation is serious, but there are funny parts. The friendship between the three waitresses is delightful.

The most tragic behind-the-scenes fact: The director, Adrienne Shelly, who also played Dawn, was murdered shortly after this movie was made.

Andy Griffith has a very nice part.

Stars Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Cheryl Hines, and Jeremy Sisto. Directed by Adrienne Shelly (I’ll Take You There).

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.
