The Assessment

The Assessment, released in 2024

Mia and Aaryan live near the ocean. Mia grows their own food in a greenhouse, and Aaryan creates virtual pets because there are no more real ones. They have decided they want to have a baby. Virginia, their assessor, comes to evaluate them — she will be there for 7 days. She asks very intimate questions of each of them. Virginia doesn’t like the bed in the guest room so they invite her to stay in their room.

It’s about what happens when you have to go through something difficult with the hope that something good will come out of it. It’s about how an intense situation affects the participants in different ways.

I like how they say prisoners are sent to the mysterious “Old World.”

Minnie Driver drops in for a fun dinner scene.

Stars Alicia Vikander, Elizabeth Olsen, and Himesh Patel. Directed by Fleur Fortune (her first movie).
