The Legend of Ochi

{4/5} “The ochi took my wife. And for that, I have no son to call my own. But if you give you little hearts to this cause, as true as I live, you are all my sons.”

The Legend of Ochi, released in 2025

On the island of Carpathia humans have been fighting ochi forever. A team of mostly teenagers goes after them at night. Although they shot at the ochi, they didn’t kill any. Yuri is not really part of the team, but she hangs out with them. Maxim, the adult in charge of the team, tries to motivate them. Yuri is Maxim’s daughter. When Yuri goes to check the traps, she finds a baby ochi.

This movie was filmed in Romania. There’s some very nice scenery, and the creatures look real.

It’s about a father and daughter who are at odds, and what happens when one person goes against the grain.

The story doesn’t have enough that’s different from other stories of this type to make a great movie, but it is a good one.

Stars Helena Zengel, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, and Finn Wolfhard. Directed by Isaiah Saxon (his first movie).
