Star Trek Destiny: Mere Mortals

{4.5/5} “Shostakova slammed her palms flat on the tabletop. ‘I don’t care, Seven,’ she said. ‘Thalaron weapons are an abomination, which is why we signed a treaty outlawing them. The Federation won’t endorse the use of genocidal tactics.’ ‘Then I cannot help you,’ Seven said, ‘because the Borg have no such reservations — and they will exterminate you.'”

Star Trek Destiny: Mere Mortals by David Mack, published in 2008

The Enterprise has engaged the Borg — Captain Picard didn’t think there were any Starfleet ships nearby, but Captain Dax on the Aventine surprises him. Dax used a subspace tunnel to arrive from the Gamma Quadrant. If, as Captain Picard suspects, the Borg are using subspace tunnels to get to Federation space he wants them destroyed. Meanwhile, the Titan has found New Erigol — and Captain Hernandez is still alive.

This is the sequel to Gods of Night.

In addition to seeing what’s happening on various ships, we also see Federation President Bacco on Earth. This time we also see Captain Chakotay on Voyager.

It’s about what happens when you’re confined for decades in a city floating through space. It’s about people who spend millennia on their Great Work.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.

I’ve read 15 books by Mack.
