The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (season 5)
{5/5} “Like every other parent, I spend sleepless nights imagining what my kids are going to say about me to their psychiatrists. ‘She wasn’t home.’ ‘She missed my baseball game.’ ‘She made me listen to her tight ten for a week before she opened in Toledo and then had us heckle her for three hours so she had some practised comebacks.'”
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5, aired in 2023
At Thanksgiving Moishe and Shirley reveal they’re getting a divorce, and Joel reveals he’s getting married and having a baby. But when Joel gets home, Mei announces that’s not the life she wants — she’s moving to Chicago to become a doctor. Things keep going wrong for Abe and Rose — and then Rose realizes who’s at fault. Midge accepts a writing position on the late-night talk show — Susie assures her this will lead to the host realizing she’s a star.
This is the last season.
There are some startling flashforwards where Midge is famous, she is estranged from Susie, and Joel is in jail.
Both the ending of the regular part of the show and the ending of the epilogue are beautiful.
Guest stars include Michael Cyril Creighton and Hank Azaria.
I previously reviewed season 4.
