James T. Kirk died on Veridian III, helping Jean-Luc Picard defeat Soran. Sometime later he finds himself in a place where he recognizes Saavik and a few others. Eventually he finds his dearest friend, Spock.
This is an 8 minute film with no dialogue. It is essentially a tribute to the friendship of Kirk and Spock — as such, it is glorious.
Whether you see it as spiritual or emotional, I think you’ll find it fitting.
It is a collaboration between OTOY and the Roddenberry Archive.
Although William Shatner is listed as the star, that’s a bit misleading — he didn’t actually portray Kirk on set, Sam Witwer did. Shatner did help the producers out behind the scenes. Witwer, along with some technology, will convince you that he’s Shatner’s version of Kirk.
Stars Robin Curtis, Mahé Thaissa, and Lawrence Selleck. Directed by Carlos Baena (the TV show WondLa). The beautiful music is by Michael Giacchino.
