Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released in 2016
Jyn Erso was a young girl when she saw her mother killed and her father taken away by the Empire. Years later she’s rescued from the clutches of the Empire by a Rebel team. At headquarters she’s asked to join Cassian Andor on a mission to find out about the planet-killing weapon her father is supposedly working on. First they have to convince Saw Gerrera, who raised Jyn but hasn’t seen her in years, to give them an Empire pilot who defected.
This time I wanted to watch this movie soon after Episode IV: A New Hope so I could see better how well it matches.
It’s about people who know what sacrifice is. It’s funny, and fits in extremely well with what we know.
It’s beautifully filmed and the story is striking. I appreciated it even more this time.
Stars Forest Whitaker, Donnie Yen, Riz Ahmed, Mads Mikkelsen, and Ben Mendelsohn. Directed by Gareth Edwards (Jurassic World: Rebirth). The music by Michael Giacchino is delightful.
