Star Trek Annual #2: Starfleet Academy!

{5/5} “You’ll be told things by superiors that you disagree with throughout your career, Kirk… presuming you have a career. You have to take a stand for what you believe in.”

Star Trek Annual #2: Starfleet Academy! by Peter David, published in 1991

When James T. Kirk arrives at Starfleet Academy, he’s disappointed to find that his roommate is Gary Mitchell, a complete slob. He even tries to get a different roommate but Dean Finney says no. He tries to impress Captain Decker who teaches one of his classes but their first meeting doesn’t really go well. Then he meets Carol Marcus, who he is mesmerized by.

The story shows how the young Kirk worked a bit too hard. On the other hand, Finnegan is way over the top — but I knew he was going to be because he was in “Shore Leave.”

It’s about putting together capable people to get to the bottom of something, and banding together as a team. Ruth, Kyle, and Uhura are also featured.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.

I’ve read 28 novels, 3 graphic novels, and a bunch of comic books by David. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Once a Hero!
