Asteroid City

{4.5/5} “Some of our information about outer space may no longer be completely accurate.”

Asteroid City, released in 2023

In 1955 in a place called Asteroid City in the desert an alien appears briefly. The government makes all the people who witness it stay there while they come in and conduct interviews. They’re trying to not let the secret get out, but it does. Many of the people stuck are there are the Junior Stargazer convention, in which young scientists come up with new inventions.

This movie has a play-within-a-play structure that was, for my taste, unnecessary.

Apart from that, I liked it immensely. The tone of dry wit persisted remarkably through the whole movie.

Jeff Goldblum has a nice cameo.

Wes Anderson regulars Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tilda Swinton, and Adrien Brody are here.

Stars Tom Hanks, Steve Carell, Maya Hawke, and Bryan Cranston. Directed by Wes Anderson (Fantastic Mr. Fox). The music is by Alexandre Desplat.
