Side Effects

{4.5/5} “You don’t know what it’s like. OK, every afternoon it’s like… it’s like there’s this poisonous fog bank rolling in on my mind, and I’m paralyzed.”

Emily’s husband Martin has just been released from prison, where he went for insider trading. She wants to resume her life with her husband. But she has battled depression in the past and continues to battle it. Her psychiatrist gives her a new drug to try — it makes her feel better but it has some side effects.

Side Effects was released earlier this year.

I think you’ll be surprised at the direction this story takes.

It’s about our relationship with drugs, and the relationship between drug companies and doctors. It’s also about one person’s persistence in getting to the bottom of a mystery.

The mysterious music is by Thomas Newman (Skyfall).

Rooney Mara (The Social Network) plays Emily and Channing Tatum (21 Jump Street) plays Martin. Jude Law (Gattaca) plays Emily’s psychiatrist and Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Mask of Zorro) plays Emily’s former psychiatrist.

The movie was directed by Steven Soderbergh (Ocean’s Eleven).
