DaCapo Chamber Choir’s “There Will Be Rest”
I attended the DaCapo Chamber Choir’s concert “There Will Be Rest.”
This was the last concert of their 20th anniversary season, and they welcomed back 35 alumni to sing 4 pieces with them — I was part of this alumni choir.
Here’s the program:
- Timothy Corlis – Still
- Stephanie Martin – They will pass through the land *
- Arvo Pärt – Beatitudes *
- Leonard Enns – There is a river *
- Jonathan Harvey – Thou mastering me God *
- Imant Raminsh – Come, my light
- Douglas Price – Laughter & Light
- winner of the NewWorks competition, premiere
- Samuel Barber – Agnus Dei +
- Frank Ticheli – There Will Be Rest +
- Eriks Esenvalds – Stars +
- Viktor Kalinnikov – Lord now lettest +
*Some pieces were accompanied by Mark McDowell on organ.
+The alumni choir joined with DaCapo on these pieces.
The choir is, as always, conducted by Leonard Enns. He says: “Our May concert reflects aspirations that have attracted refugees to settle in Canada, while also acknowledging violence and tragedy that have driven them from their homeland.”
I previously discussed their concert “Following the Moonroad.”
