Shazam!

{4.5/5} “Oh hey there, son. Oh hey there, other son that I also have that’s related to that son I just passed in the hallway.”

Shazam! released in 2019

Billy Batson has been running away from foster homes in order to look for his mom. Now a group home has taken him in, and the people there are nice. When he gets whisked away to a mysterious place, a wizard gives him his powers — which he can turn off and on by saying the word “Shazam.” He’s invulnerable to bullets, he has super speed, and he has super strength — and he can make lightning come out of his fingers.

Things are a bit slow at first but they pick up once he becomes Shazam. I liked how the people at the group home were introduced, both the owners and the kids.

It’s funny, and it has a nice message about family.

Zachary Levi is perfect as a boy in a superhero body.

Stars Mark Strong, Asher Angel, and Jack Dylan Grazer. Directed by David F. Sandberg (Lights Out). The heroic music is by Benjamin Wallfisch.

The previous movie in the DCEU I watched is Aquaman.
