Bird Box

{5/5} “Coulda been your babysitter.”

Bird Box, released in 2018

Mallory and 2 children she calls “Girl” and “Boy” are going for a long trip down a river. She tells them in very strong terms that they must keep their blindfolds on. She puts her own blindfold on, and counts the steps to the boat. She takes with her food, blankets, and a few birds in a box.

They do a tremendous job of creating an eerie mood right away. Both storylines, present day and flashback, are gripping.

It has the scariness of The Quiet Place and the intensity of Gravity. It’s brutal in parts.

Sandra Bullock magnificently portrays a woman who will do whatever it takes to keep her children safe.

Stars John Malkovich, Sarah Paulson, BD Wong, and Parminder Nagra. Directed by Susanne Bier (Love is All You Need). The sparse, mysterious music is by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
