Silver in the Wood
{4.5/5} “At once slow deep green rolled over him. He took a breath, and another, smelling old rotting leaves and healthy growth and autumn light. He felt almost as though he could have planted his feet and become a tree himself, a strong oak reaching up to the sky, brother of the old oak who ruled the world.”
Silver in the Wood by Emily Tesh, published in 2019
Tobias Finch has been looking after Greenhollow Wood for 400 years. When Henry Silver, technically his new landlord, stops by they strike up a friendship. Silver later gets Finch to a doctor when someone shoots him in fear. Silver is interested in folk stories, including one about the Wild Man who lives in Greenhollow Wood.
This novella is about friendship, and a mother who will do whatever it takes to rescue her son. It’s about a connection to nature, and magical beings like dryads.
Tesh’s prose pulls you into the story, and you’ll want to find out what happens.
It’s the 1st book I’ve read by Tesh, as it’s her 1st book.
