Star Trek: Voyager — Protectors

{4.5/5} “She would happily go where she was needed most and allow the future to unfold on its own. Janeway no longer had the slightest bit of interest in shaping it, forcing it into a form she thought she could manage. This time spent away from Starfleet had taught her that seeking such control was a waste of time, if not a complete illusion, and that her energy was much better expended opening herself up to each day ready to accept whatever it brought.”

Star Trek: Voyager — Protectors by Kirsten Beyer, published in 2014

Admiral Janeway is returning to the Alpha quadrant — Starfleet Command wants to ensure she’s fit to return to duty. Captain Chakotay asks for suggestions for where they should go next, and Lieutenant Kim reveals that over the years he made a study of the data from the spatial distortion that turned Voyager inside out. He reveals that it contains a distress call and coordinates. What they find at those coordinates is a cloaked area of space.

Captain Picard, Admiral Akaar, Admiral Montgomery, and Julia Paris show up in this one.

A couple more new characters are worth noting: Decan, a Vulcan who was and is again Janeway’s aide. And Nancy Conlon, Voyager’s chief engineer who is dating Harry.

It’s about incomprehensible beings, letting go, and making new friends.

Although part of the story comes to a conclusion, much of the storyline continues into the next book.

I’ve read 6 books by Beyer. I previously reviewed Star Trek: Voyager — The Eternal Tide.
