Jungle Cruise

{4.5/5} “You booked a river cruise and you can’t swim? The price just went up.”

Jungle Cruise, released in 2021

In 1916 Lily Houghton and her brother MacGregor travel to South America in search of a flower that cures diseases. Centuries earlier the conquistadors in search of it were captured by the jungle itself and supposedly never died. Now Lily hires Frank Wolff to take them on the Amazon on his boat. The first problem is that Nilo, who Frank owes money to, has the boat’s engine.

Like Pirates of the Caribbean, this movie is based on a Disney theme park ride.

It’s very funny. Lily accidentally punches Frank in the face and he says, “Strong form.”

There are 1 or 2 stunts that are slightly unbelievable, but it’s lots of fun.

Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt are delightful.

Stars Jesse Plemons and Paul Giamatti. Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Commuter). The exuberant music is by James Newton Howard.
