Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb

{5/5} “When we cleaned the ground, we found four shafts filled with sand… If we can find the whole family buried in the shafts after 4500 years, that would be better than finding gold.”

Secrets of the Saqqara Tomb, released in 2020

Saqqara is the oldest stone pyramid in the world. In 2018 Egyptian archaeologists made a startling discovery nearby — a well preserved tomb that hadn’t been touched in 4400 years. The paint on the walls was still there. The man who was buried there, Wahtye, was a mystery. But the hieroglyphics on the walls told his story.

This is a terrific documentary for anyone interested in Ancient Egypt. The details in the pictures on the walls are magnificent.

I like how happy the archaeologists are to be finding the things that they’re finding.

One thing that’s interesting about hieroglyphics is that they can go in any of the 4 directions.

There’s lots of great information here about the latest discoveries, what the Ancient Egyptians believed, and how today’s Egyptians feel connected to their ancestors.

Directed by Ibrahim Elhefnawy (editor on The Thief of Baghdad) and James Tovell (the TV show Dark Matters: Twisted But True).
