Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part 1

{5/5} “‘If I tell you to run, you run.’ ‘Run? This is getting exciting.'”

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, released in 2023

A Russian sub sinks when the AI on board goes rogue. Ethan Hunt gets word that Ilsa Faust is about to be killed by mercenaries, and the US would like a half of a key that she has in her possession. Ethan wants to know more about the situation than they’re telling him, so he goes to Washington to talk to his old friend Kittridge. Kitridge reveals that he wants the US to control the AI, but Ethan says he will destroy it.

This movie starts with a bang and never lets up.

And the masks? The masks are glorious.

Finally, there’s a car chase where one of the drivers drives like I would if I were in a car chase.

The scene where Ethan invites Grace to join the IMF is astonishing.

It’s about friends who will do anything for each other, and saving the world.

It is a joy to see Tom Cruise, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, and Rebecca Ferguson playing their established roles again.

Henry Czerny reprises his role of Kittridge from the very 1st movie in the series.

Stars Hayley Atwell, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, and Cary Elwes. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie (Mission: Impossible — Fallout).

The music is by Lorne Balfe, returning to the series for a 2nd time. The thrilling music adds to the movie’s brilliance.
